1 November 2012 - The day Carrefour said goodbye to Malaysia Retail Industry

Seperti yang dikatakan tajuk di atas, Carrefour telah diambil alih oleh syarikat Jepun, Aeon Co. Ltd. pada 1 November 2012 yg lepas dan nama Carrefour telah ditukar kepada Aeon Big (lihat gambar di bawah). Sebab pengambilalihan tidak pula diketahui, mungkinkah sebab Carrefour Malaysia mengalami kerugian??

And as far as i know, syarikat Aeon ni juga miliki supermarkets Aeon Jusco seluruh Malaysia. This maybe a bit of sad news to Malaysia consumers sebab 2 perkara:

- Harga makanan /barang dapur (groceries) di Aeon Big ini mungkin lebih mahal dari harga barang groceries di Carrefour atau Giant sebab jika kita lihat harga barang-barang groceries kat pasaraya Aeon sedia ada memang lebih mahal.

- Kurang saingan; as far as i know bila ada banyak saingan untuk sesuatu produk customers akan untung sebab byk syarikat yg akan bersaing dan harga akan kurang. Bila kurang saingan perkara sebaliknya dijangka akan berlaku. Dengan pengambilalihan Carrefour ini oleh syarikat yg sama yg mengendalikan supermarket Aeon, maka kuranglah satu saingan antara syarikat-syarikat retail di Malaysia.

The bottom line: BlackBerry lovers who can get past the rookie mistakes will find a polished-looking OS that's packed with interesting and useful features, but happy Android and iOS users won't find a reason to switch.

Baked chocolate doughnuts

Baked, not fried, these chocolate doughnuts are easy to make and even easier to enjoy.

• Ingredients

• 150g (1 cup) plain flour
• 70g (1/3 cup) caster sugar
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 60ml (1/4 cup) milk
• 50g butter, melted
• 1 egg, lightly whisked
• 100g Woolworths Select Dark Chocolate, finely chopped
• 125ml (1/2 cup) thickened cream

1. Step 1
   Combine flour, sugar and baking powder in a bowl. Make a well. Stir in milk, butter and egg until smooth. Spoon into a sealable plastic bag. Cut 1 corner to make a hole. Pipe among 12 doughnut pans. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a skewer inserted into doughnuts comes out clean.
2. Step 2
   Stir chocolate and cream in a saucepan over medium heat for 5 minutes or until smooth. Set aside for 20 minutes to thicken slightly.
3. Step 3
   Dip light-side of doughnuts into the chocolate mixture. Place, glaze-side up, on a tray to set.

Some story - MBPJ kenakan bayaran untuk memproses permohonan kerja secara online di MBPJ

Hari ini saya cuba apply beberapa jawatan kosong di Majlis Bandaraya Petaling Jaya (MBSJ) dan saya apply secara online. Macam biasa bila apply online, mula2 saya register, lepastu saya isi la butir2 peribadi saya atau lengkapkan resume di situ. Isi borang permohonan online di MBSJ memang mudah dan senang. Lebih mudah dan senang dari beberapa permohonan online syarikat2 lain. Tapi bila saya hantar/tekan apply  permohonan online saya itu, saya terkejut sebab MBPJ kenakan bayaran RM 2 untuk setiap permohonan jawatan untuk diproses (lihat gambar di bawah).

Memang la saya terkejut sebab sebelum ni saya isi permohonan kerja secara online tak pernah pon minta bayar untuk proses permohonan kerja.

Archon Genomics X-Prize

We stopped by to chat with the team from the X-Prize Foundation at the show. This dynamic, energetic group develops competitions to spur innovation, from space exploration to automotive efficiency to, now, health. Their Archon Genomics X-Prize will, later this year, award $10 million to the first group that can sequence 100 genomes for less than $1,000 each and in less than 30 days. Basically, the idea is that rapid, inexpensive DNA sequencing will allow researchers to create ever-growing databases of health risks, and allow you to find out what may or may not lie in your future. As a result, you’ll be able to take preventive measures and lifestyle changes to keep illness at bay, and maybe live forever! Okay, probably not, but we’d sure like to be here for the 2075 Consumer Electronics Show, so we’re lining up for testing.
