Awesome products at CES 2013 [part 1]

iRiver On

2) iRiver On

iRiver is the first manufacturer to tap the new fitness-monitoring technology created by Valencell. Instead of using a heart-rate monitor embedded in a chest strap, these trick earbuds analyze bloodflow in your ear to produce accurate heart-rate, blood pressure, and oxygenation data, among other useful metrics. Expect to see this tech spreading fast.

Parrot Flower Power

3) Parrot Flower Power

Parrot, a French manufacturer of Bluetooth equipment, always surprises us at CES. First it was its smartphone-controlled AR.Drone quadricopter. Last year they introduced sensational wireless earphones designed by Philip Starck. This year, they come to the rescue of neglected houseplants with a Bluetooth-equipped soil sensor. The Flower Power measures sunlight, humidity, temperature, and fertilizer in potted plants our outdoor gardens, and alerts when you need to start giving your greenery some love. The botanist-developed database of 6,000 plants ensures even the most exotic terrarium is covered.

Wahoo Fitness KICKR Power Trainer

4) Wahoo Fitness KICKR Power Trainer

This is the first iPhone-powered bike trainer. Just attach your road bike to it, hop on, and use your smartphone app to control your resistance as the device simulates thousands of different riding conditions. Of course, it provides feedback and the app analyzes your ride afterwards so you can gauge your improvement.

JBL Charge

5) JBL Charge

JBL unleashes its audio expertise on the portable speaker segment with this huge-sounding compact Bluetooth sound-cylinder. Rubber grips on the flat bottom will make sure it won’t roll away on you. Bonus: It’ll charge your cell phone in a pinch. Get it now? Charge ….

Panasonic 20-Inch 4K Tablet

6) Panasonic 20-Inch 4K Tablet

When we first saw this colossal 4k-resolution tablet, we thought, huh? After staring at it for a few minutes, we then thought, WANT! Sure, if they actually pull the trigger on this thing—it’s just a concept right now—it’ll likely be marketed toward photographers who’ll use it for editing, remote shooting, etc. But we can see enthusiasm for this crazy-big, Windows 8-based tablet building among movie buffs, casual shooters who enjoy portable image-editing with a big canvas, and gamers. Seriously, think of the gaming potential here!

Nikon 1 J3 and S1

7) Nikon 1 J3 and S1

Nikon’s newest updates to their mirrorless, interchangeable lens cameras bring a slew of cool features. Our favorites: high-speed shooting of up to 15 frames per second, with continuous autofocus. The S1 (right) is slightly smaller and has a 10.1 megapixel sensor, compared to the J3’s 14.2 megapixel chip.
