✦ Steps for Getting Closer to Ar-Rahman: 3. Get to know Allah through His 99 Beautiful Names ✦
How can you love Allah (glorified and exalted be He) and want to get closer to Him if you don’t know Him that well?
We fall in love with people as we get to know them more and realize that they have a lot of beautiful qualities and characteristics. Of course Allah (glorified and exalted be He) is above any analogy, but you need know Him more.
Wanting to get closer alone won’t do you any good without falling in love with your Creator. Start with the name of Al-Wadud, the Ever-Loving. Allah’s (glorified and exalted be He) love for you is unconditional. He does not need or want anything from you in return. He loves you so He keeps giving you even if you disobey Him. Ask Allah (glorified and exalted be He) with His 99 Names.
If you want to get closer to Him, pray with His name Al-Qareeb (The Close One) and ask Him to bring you closer to Him. And with Al-Wadud ask Him to love you more and make you love Him more. It’s as simple as that. We tend to overthink stuff and forget that if we seek refuge in Allah (glorified and exalted be He), He will make everything easier on us.
Abu Huraira (RadiyAllaahu 'Anhu) narrates that the Prophet [SallAllaahu 'Alayhi Wa Sallam] said, “If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying, ‘Allah loves so and-so; O Gabriel! Love him.’ Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. ‘Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,’ and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth.” [Sahih Al-Bukhari: Hadith Qudsi #24]

IS THERE A DU'AA' MENTIONED IN HADEETH TO READ AT THE TIME OF IFTAAR?
•► YES.
WHEN SHOULD WE RECITE THE DU'AA'?
•► RECITE BEFORE OR RECITE AFTERWARDS.
CAN WE READ OTHER DU'AA' BEFORE OR AFTER IFTAAR?
•► YES.
IS THERE ANY HADEETH WHICH SAYS THAT DU'AAS OF FASTING PERSON ARE ACCEPTED?
•► YES.
------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------
Evidences :
Umar RA said: The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say when breaking his fast:
“DHAHABA AL-ZAMA’ WA ABTALAT AL-‘UROOQ WA THABATA AL-AJR IN SHA ALLAAH. (Thirst is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is certain if Allaah wills).”
[Narrated by Abu Dawood, 2357; al-Daaraqutni, 25. Ibn Hajar said in al-Talkhees al-Habeer (2/202): al-Daaraqutni said, its isnaad is saheeh.] •► This is the authentic du'a for Iftar!
Some people recite this dua which is weak:
“ALLAAHUMMA LAKA SUMTU WA ‘ALA RIZQIKA AFTARTU (O Allaah, for You have I fasted and by Your provision I have broken my fast)”
[It was narrated by Abu Dawood, 2358, Irwa Ghaleel 4/37 and Silsilah Daeefa 6996. It is a mursal hadeeth so it is da’eef (weak) . Al-Albaani classed it as da’eef (weak).] •► This du'a can't be recited since it's come under the weak hadith!
It was narrated in a saheeh report that our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
“There are three prayers that are not rejected: the prayer of a father for his child, the prayer of the FASTING PERSON and the prayer of the traveller.”
[Narrated by al-Bayhaqi; Saheeh al-Jaami’, 2032; al-Saheehah, 1797.]

Explanation :
Ibn Uthaymeen rahimahullaah said :
“Du’aa’ should be made before iftaar (breaking the fast), at Maghrib, because this combines weakness and humility, and because he is still fasting. All of these are means of having one’s du’aa’ answered. After breaking the fast, one is relaxed and happy, and may become negligent. But there is a hadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) which, if it is saheeh, shows that the du’aa’ may be made after breaking the fast. It said: THIRST HAS GONE, THE VEINS ARE MOIST, AND THE REWARD IS ASSURED, IF ALLAAH WILLS.”
-- Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (Al-Liqaa Al-Shahri, 8)
The scholars of Alifta said :
Du'aa' can be made before or after Iftar because the preposition "at" refers to BOTH times.
